VA Pilot Project Unveiled by Hoeven

A pilot program, initiated by Senator Hoeven, will help veterans who may have not had good access to care. The new Veterans Care Coordination Program is designed to help veterans receive care in their own communities when a VA facility is not available or close by.

Michelle Tweeten Schmidt of Minot has been selected for the Angels in Adoption Award.

“Michelle’s passion for helping children is evident in both her professional work and her personal life,” said Senator John Hoeven. “As a special education paraprofessional, Michelle has spent more than two decades helping to educate special needs students. At the same time, she’s opened her home and cared for 14 children with varying disabilities. Michelle is truly an advocate for children and a deserving Angel in Adoption.”

Senator Hoeven Tours Killdeer Mountain Manufacturing

Killdeer Mountain Manufacturing (KMM) was founded in Killdeer by Don and Patricia Hedger. Senator Hoeven toured KMM, which makes electronic equipment, including circuit boards, wire harnesses and sensors for military and civilian aircraft.

National Veteran's Cemetery will be built in Harwood

Senator Hoeven introduces Synthetic Drug Legislation

Today in Mandan, at a roundtable with federal, state and local law enforcement, Senator Hoeven introduced legislation to keep harmful synthetic drugs off the street.

The Illegal Synthetic Drug Safety Act of 2016, which the senator sponsored with Senator Chris Coons (D-Del.,) has been endorsed by the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association.

Hoeven honored to give recognition

Senator John Hoeven presented a Purple Heart and a Silver Star in separate ceremonies in Carrington and Jamestown yesterday. James Laurie of Bowdon received the Purple Heart for injuries he received in Vietnam in 1967 and the family of Reinholdt Hofmann was presented the SIlver Star. Hofmann was killed in action in the Philipines in 1945.

Grand Sky celebrates first large UAS flight

Senator Hoeven was on hand to witness the first large UAS flight from Grand Sky business park today. Hoeven worked extensively to bring the unmanned aviation test site to Grand Forks and continues to work on federal regulations that will benefit the program.

Senator Hoeven stopped by Drayton today to see the levee system he is working to keep in place. Hoeven is working with the community to find a way to make the levees permanent, as they have kept the city dry at least five times in the past.

Senator Hoeven works to keep Drayton levees in place

After the city of Drayton found they would have to remove levees, which have protected the city from flood waters at least five times, Senator John Hoeven began working to find a solution with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Based on his efforts, Drayton received a 6-month extension and Hoeven has drafted legislation to keep them in place permanently.

President Signs Native American Children's Safety Act

The Native American Children's Safety Act was authored and introduced in the Senate by Senator John Hoeven. Congressman Kevin Cramer then led the effort to get the measure passed in the House.

"A decade ago, we worked in North Dakota to ensure that all adults living in a foster home were background checked to protect the children in their care, and now we have extended that same safety net for children in tribal foster care and across the nation," Hoeven said. "Starting today, it's the law of the land."

The Native American Children's Safety Act requires background checks to be conducted on all adults living in a potential foster home before a tribal court may place a child in that home. A background check will also be required on any adult who moves into the home after placement.

Bison recognized as U.S. National Mammal by Senate and Congress

The U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives both passed legislation this week to approve the bison as the National Mammal of the United States.

Hoeven Legislation included in FAA Reauthorization Bill

The Senate passed a $33 billion FAA Reauthorization Bill with legislation Senator Hoeven included to extend another five years of research at the nation's six unmanned aerial systems (UAS) test sites, including the Northern Plains UAS Test Site in Grand Forks. The bill was passed with a bipartisan vote of 95 to 3.

A second amendment, offered by Hoeven and Sen. Thad Cochran, strengthens existing UAS Research Programs, including the one at University of North Dakota.

Fargo-based 461st Engineer Company receives U.S. Flag at Send-Off from Senator Hoeven

Senator John Hoeven attended a send-off for a Fargo-based Army Reserve unit that will be deployed to Kuwait as part of Operation Spartan Shield.

Hoeven unanimously nominated for second term in U.S. Senate

Senator John Hoeven today received the unanimous endorsement of the North Dakota Republican Party for a second term in the United States Senate.

Speaking to over 2,000 delegates, alternates and guests, Hoeven stressed the importance of taking North Dakota common sense to Washington. "We need to get back to the fundamentals," he said. "America has always been the best place in the world to do business. We need to make it the best place in the world to do business once again."

Hoeven also talked about some of the Senate's accomplishments during his time in office. "We lifted the 40-year-old ban on oil exports, passed a long-term highway bill for the first time in a decade, and passed $680 million in tax relief, including making section 179 expensing permanent for our farmers, ranchers and small businesses."

Senator Hoeven highlights progress on Veteran's Access to Health Care and other issues facing North Dakota

Senator Hoeven held a round table at the Bapist Health Care Center in Bismarck Wednesday, March 29th, and talked about the Veterans Access to Long Term Care and Health Services Act, which is legislation he sponsored with Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.). The bill, approved by the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee, would provide more Long Term Care services for veterans closer to their homes.

Senator Hoeven was in Bowman and Amidon earlier in the week, learning about and addressing community projects, needs and concerns:
- The Bowman Airport received $12 million in Airport Improvement Program grants, which the senator worked on in the Senate Appropriations Committee. The airport was completed last May.
- The Southwest Healthcare Hospital, currently under construction, received a $15 million low-interest loan from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development.
- Senator Hoeven worked to include $2 million in the year-end funding bill to finance communications equipment for the Powder River Training Complex. Local residents and pilots were concerned they did not know when the low-altitude military training exercises would be held. The communications equipment allows the Air Force to notify residents and pilots when training will occur.

Senator Hoeven wraps up District Conventions

The North Dakota Republican District Conventions wrapped up last weekend and Senator Hoeven, along with Mikey, was able to attend in District 22 and District 20. "We need to make sure we win these elections," said Hoeven. "It is important for the future of our state."

There have been overflowing crowds at almost all conventions across North Dakota and last Saturday was no exception. Almost all delegate spots are filled and it looks like there will be a record crowd at the state convention in April.

The North Dakota Republican Convention will be held in Fargo April 1st - 3rd.
